Google has unveiled its first own branded tablet,NEXUS 7.Made by the Taiwanese company Asus,it runs the latest Android, version 4.1 also known as JELLY BEAN. The 7-inch (17.8cm) Nexus tablet features a quad-core CPU (central processing unit) and a 12-core GPU (graphics processing unit).Having so many cores means the machine can ramp up its processing power when dealing with complicated graphics or running several programs at once, but can use less at other times to extend battery life.It is a similar size to Amazon’s tablet and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.It has got a scratch resistant Corning glass and front facing 1.2 mega pixel camera .
What buyers loose is the built-in expandable storage options and a back camera.Speaking of holding, the Nexus 7 is noticeably lighter than the Kindle Fire and thanks to its beveled bottom and painted silver trim, actually looks thinner. On the right edge toward the top is the power/lock button, closely followed by the volume rocker. Following the right edge down and around to the bottom reveals a headphone jack, with a Micro-USB port in the middle of bottom edge. Right above that, on the back is a horizontally-aligned two-inch long speaker slit.It weighs about 340 grams.
Nexus 7 was designed with gaming in mind. With heart pounding quad-core performance and sensors like a gyroscope and accelerometer – do a barrel roll then tilt, touch and tap your way to the top of the leaderboards while exploring over 600,000 apps and games available on Google Play. With over 9 hours of HD video playback, 10 hours of web browsing or 10 hours of e-reading and up to 300 hours of stand-by time, Nexus 7 is designed to go the distance. You can spend less time charging and more time doing.
The Nexus 7 will be the first device to ship with the latest incarnation of the Android OS. Here’s a quick view of the new JELLY BEAN.It has got a film strip view for photo navigation, and a quick finger motion to delete a image,Voice Typing and Voice Search. Google has shrunk down the voice transcription software to fit inside the device itself, rather than over the network connection. The advantage is that Siri always needs an Internet connection to use this feature, while Google’s new feature doesn’t.With much richer notifications Google has introduced a new feature called Google Now which will lean heavily on Google searches you’ve conducted in the past to learn your likes to better anticipate your wishes. So if Google knows you commute to work at the same time every day, it will provide a card showing how long it will take you to get there, offering faster alternatives if the usual route is slow. Jelly Bean comes with Near Field Communication (NFC) capabilities. Overall it looks like Google has provided users with a much faster and sharper OS.
